NOTD: NerdLacquer, Pinin' For The Fjords

Hi there! I don't have a proper swatch & review post today because I only wore the manicure for a day and did not photograph it properly with my camera. Below, I'm just posting some quick cell phone pictures of the manicure! I will certainly wear it again soon.

I know I've mentioned this mysterious "basecoat" that I'm testing out a few times now, but I swearrr, I just haven't had the time to put together a proper review on it yet :(

NerdLacquer, Pinin' For The Fjords is actually a lot lighter than it photographed on the stupid cell phone. It was too monotone for me personally, because the pale lilac base with the slightly darker but still lilac glitter over it was just too safe/boring of a combination. I do like it, but perhaps I wasn't in the mood for something that sober that day!
Eh. I don't know why I don't like it.

This is the only picture that's even slightly focused. The sparkly glitter didn't cooperate.
Blurry, but more color accurate
  • Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter-A-Peel Basecoat (It peels off, durrr)
  • NerdLacquer, Pinin' For The Fjords, 2 coats, no undies
  • Revlon Quickdry Top Coat, 2 coats to fully smooth out glitter

Nerd Lacquer - Quantum Bluniverse

This is a quickie post! What happened is that I put this manicure on over Nail Pattern Boldnes's Glitter A Peel, which I have been testing the last week or so, and did not have any success with the mani's longevity. Moreover, I managed to ruin the state of my nails enough to cut them down really short. SO UNHAPPY!

But I cut them, buffed them, and braved the Glitter A Peel once more for NerdLacquer, Quantum Bluniverse.

NerdLacquer - Quantum Bluniverse is a gorgeous polish. I cannot get tired of praising NL polishes, honestly. Sadly, I've only got one polish left to review for you guys as I was only able to purchase 5 polishes from her shop. I had originally hoped for 10! BOOHOO

This is a cobalt blue base loaded with color-shifting shimmer. On top of that, it's got beautiful square blue glitter and varying sizes of golden/bronzed glitter as well. It is opaque in two coats - I did not need to layer anything underneath for my swatches. It is packed with glitter so some dabbing is required to move glitter around to where you want it and I found myself actually trying to take OFF some glitter because my nails would get overloaded with it.

The formula, unfortunately, is not as perfect as I hoped. It's a fairly opaque base color loaded with glitter, and falls sort of thick and harder to work with than other NerdLacquers that I own. Further, the larger gold hexes do sink to the bottom so some shaking or storing upside down prior to application would be helpful. It looks amazing once it's on though!! Just be warned that everything's not smooth sailing though I wished it had been.

Nerd Lacquer - Exterminate Swatches and Review

I've already swatched my faaavorite polish from my order, Cyance Friction. Exterminate was something I bought on a whim - my boyfriend saw me browsing through swatches and he really liked the color combo, so I went with it. I'm not disappointed at all!

NerdLacquer, Exterminate - This polish was unexpectedly pretty! I was unsure about how well the glitters would show over the brown base but the formula did not disappoint. Exterminate is a bronzed brown base packed (And I mean PACKED) primarily with blue and gold/bronze glitters. If you look closely at the swatch, there are also some black glitters sprinkled throughout, but I didn't notice them on my nail and only picked up on them when I was looking at swatch pictures.

For my swatches, I wore:

  • Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A Peel Basecoat - Detailed review coming soon
  • China Glaze, Call of the Wild (Dark brown creme) - 1 Coat
  • NerdLacquer, Exterminate - 2 Coats
  • Cult Nails Wicked Fast Topcoat

This is an 'indirect sunlight' picture. You can see that the glitters ost definitely did not get lost! I did use 2 coats of topcoat - one in the night and one in the morning - so the finish was fully smooth to the touch as well.

This picture was taken indoors, so artificial lighting. Aaaagh this looks so beautiful in its bottle shots too :) I did have to fish a little bit for the larger glitters because a lot of them sink to the bottom or are stuck to the sides. How annoying! But a little tiny bit of extra fishing and placing effort ensured that my OCD self had nice glitter distribution and some layering going on.

And now, a bonus sunlight shot to show you how gorgeous it looks when it's sparkling in the sun!!!! I mean c'mon, you can't deny. IT IS GORGEOUS.

My review/thoughts:
This polish is very thick from how densely packed with glitter it is. It did not make application too hard, but it did require a little bit of manipulation to make sure my nails weren't being flooded with glitters (Too much glitter in one layer = clumpy and bumpy finish). Other than that issue, the formula spread and layered like a dream. I could probably have done 2-3 coats and built it up to opacity but there was just so much glitter packed in the formula that I chose to use a basecoat and avoid layering the glitter so thickly. The first coat of Exterminate was dabbed on, and then a second coat was used to fill in around the edges and uneven glitter gaps. As I said, be prepared to manipulate the polish around a little. It's not that hard or time-consuming, but just something you should know!

Unfortunately, my basecoat here is the reason you see all the unfortunate chips and 'tipwear.' Let's just say that Glitter A Peel did not live up to my longevity expectations. These swatches were taken the morning after I put on my manicure. No shower in between (I showered in the evening before putting this manicure on) and I spent most of the time sleeping. Glitter A Peel is a great glue-type basecoat when you want an easy to remove glitter manicure, but don't expect it to last longer than the evening you need it for :(

Nerd Lacquer - Cyance Friction Swatches and Review

Guys I can't EVEN gush enough about how excited I am to be featuring this nail polish on my blog. Get ready for about 50 too many unnecessary manicures of this. (Okay fiiiine, I won't spam you that badly)

image

Readers, please excuse the possible misuse of the above gif here. I just had to show you how I reacted when I saw that I was getting me some Nerd Lacquers during her last restock. She sold almost 1000 bottles of polish IN THREE MINUTES FLAT. I mean, what the fudge!?

Expect to see more Nerds on the blog as I slowly work my way through wearing them. I'm not going to just swatch em, I'm going to wear each one! So they'll pop up over the course of a few weeks. But now onto the good stuff!

Cyance Friction is a beautiful green-leaning teal jelly polish packed with glitter. There are large gold hexes, mid-sized gold and turquoise hexes along with a beauuuutiful gold-to-violet shifting shimmer. My camera was unable to showcase the violet shimmer that well. One of the last swatches I took SORT OF has that ability, but the macro shot above shows you the gold and violet tones of the color-shifting shimmer!

This picture is taken outdoors in natural sunlight
Indoors in bright white office lighting. The violet shimmer is camera-shy in artificial light!
I used 2 coats of Nerd Lacquer Cyance Friction on all of my nails. I had to fish a little for the bigger gold hexes (OH BUT LOOK AT HOW SQUISHY AND FULL OF DEPTH MY NAILS ARE) but the mid-sized gold and turquoise hexes came out just fine. 1 coat of topcoat was enough, the formula was SURPRISINGLY not that gritty, like many other extremely overpriced glitter blends are *coughLynderellacough*

Polishes used in this manciure: Nail Tek II Foundation Basecoat, Nerd Lacquer Cyance Friction (2 coats), Revlon Quick Dry Topcoat
AHA! I found the violet shimmer. The base color lies though, it's got more green to it in reality

This is more color-accurate than the indoor swatches were! More teal, less blue

~~~ RULES FOR POSSIBLY SWAPPING
I will consider swaps on a very limited basis because ideally, I want to reduce my collection.
  1. The Cult Nails polishes - it would be ideal if I could swap these for other Cult Nails colors I don't have yet. The colors in the blog sale are doubles.
  2. If you could let go of a Nerd Lacquer, please contact me about arranging a swap? I can't afford them outright but can pay you their weight in other nail polishes!! Because I know concerns have come up, I don't own a single NL and if I could obtain one of my wishlist colors, it would stay with me forever!
  3. I have wanted Nail-Venturous Flying Blue Jay for ages. Ever since I saw its first swatch. So if you have that, again, I cannot afford it outright but please please please contact me to arrange a swap!
I'll update tomorrow when I get some sun to swatch the pictures, but for now, let the text suffice!
