Essence Colour And Go Ft. GlitterDaze Love And Affection

Take this as a token of my love for all my readers! Despite the terrible vision and corneal cross linking surgery I had on Monday, I can't sit idle any more and am trying to upload this post. I was taking pictures and hoping the entire time that they wouldn't be too blurry! I think everything turned out okay, all things considered. My eyes are tired of squinting though so I'm going to sleep promptly afterwards. Play the song and read on!!

The Essence nail polishes are from my

GREY-T TO BE HERE

Grey-t To Be Here is a sheer but buildable grey polish with pretty purple shimmer dispersed throughout. At first glance, Cult Nails Disciplined comes to mine, but I think on the nail, the two are different - Disciplined is more sheer.than Grey-t. Itt dries to a gorgeous hi-gloss finish, almost like jelly finish. In fact, it's squishy enough that I could probably layer some glitter in between for a jelly sandwich. Future experiments will reveal all truths.

For the swatches above, I used: 1 Coat Nail Tek Foundation II, 2 coats Grey-t To Be Here, and 1 coat Revlon Quickdry Topcoat.

CAFE OLE

Cafe Ole is a "nude Glam" nail polish. It's pretty but not quite my cup of tea. Or coffee. Harharhar, get it? Cafe Ole was just a little streaky and difficult to work with, but mayb if I was more patient betwen coats (And could see properly), swatching it wouldn't have been such a nightmare. I'm not a fan of this shade on me but it's not a bad nude. I only wish that 1 coat wasn't streaky because it would have made a great french manicure base otherwise.

Cafe Ole is like a cross between OPI Samoan Sands and OPI Tickle My France-y in my opinion. I've got both, but SS is more sheer than Cafe Ole, and TMF is less sheer. If this had a touch more peach and didn't give my hands such a ghastly cast, I'd like it more.

Nail polishes used for the above swatches: Nail Tek II Basecoat, Cafe Ole (3 coats), Revlon Quickdry Topcoat

OH MY GLITTER!

Oh My Glitter! is prettyyyy! Unexpectedly sheer though, but built up with no problems. My camera hates purples and blues SO this color in reality is a LOT more true purple, not as blue-leaning as the pictures make you believe. Perhaps when I can see a tad better and do more fine-tuned Photoshop work, I'll make color-crrecting adjustments to the photos but for now, just take my word that it's more purple!

I used 2 coats and everything dried to a high-glossed finish. It's got a really pretty shimmer in it that's reminescent of Cult Nails, Doppelganger (The shimmery topcoat that allows you to recreate the signature Cult Nails sparkle in whatever nail polish you want). The shimmer doesn't translate that well onto your nail and I was hoping it would have been stronger. It's a very dainty purple polish and will make a great base for different glitters!

Polishes used for the above swatches: Nail Tek II Basecoat, Essence Oh My Glitter!, 2 coats, and Revlon Quickdry Topcoat

GORGEOUS BLING BLING

Gorgeous Bling Bling is a terracotta colored nail polish with chunky gold glitter/shimmer in it. I think it's shimmer but there are some bigger pieces too. Unfortunately when I took pictures, the chunky gold glitter just photographed a bit weird...rather than add "bling", I thik the overall effect is rough and choppy and blah. I hoped to like it more than I did. I'm also not explaining myself very well. Even though in reality, this manicure was glossy and smooth, it didn't photograph as such.

WHAT I DID TO FIX THIS - I just topped it all with glitter. I've been waiting for a chance to use my GlitterDaze, Love & Affection nail polish purchased during a clearance sale. I think I paid like $5 plus shipping for it? Something like that. For that price, I've got no complaints.

GlitterDaze, Love & Affection

Love & Affection is named after a Rihanna & Future song and for that reason alone, I love it! I love that song because Future is like my trashy guilty pleasure and I can play that song on repeat and wail along with him for hours. Legit. HOURS.

Love & Affection is a GLITTERBOMB. It features a dark chocolate base packed with light pink, fuchsia, and silvery-white hex glitters in varying sizes. There is also some microglitter to finish it off. I used 1 coat dabbed on over Essence Gorgeous Bling Bling and was more than satisfied with the result, although the base is colored enough that next time, I will probably ust wear 2-3 layers on its own.

I had some issues with the formula at first, but despite my hesitations, was able to get a great application. The bottle is packed with glitter and in my opinion, the glitter-to-base ratio could do with some adjusting. When I put it on my nails, so so so many glitters come out that you can't make out what it's made of or appreciate its nuances anymore. It's like pretty sparkly glitter vomit on your nails. The fact that the base is so dark and opaque on its own also made it hard for the glitter to shine through, it just gets lost in the murky brown depths.

I still like what it looks like, don't get me wrong, but I just think it had the potential to be more sophisticated than it is. My favorite part of the polish is the punch bold fuchsia glitters but sadly, a lot of them are buried underneath everything else and oly 1-2 really sparkle and shine the way they could.

WELL THEN, I'M DONE RANTING. Go replay that song, you know you want to ;)

NOTD: Essie DJ Play That Song + Cult Nails Seduction

Work this week has been crazy and I haven't had the energy/time to edit photos once I get home. AT THE SAME TIME, I hate not posting so ~~

You can click the smaller pix to view them full-sized :) Someday I'll figure out how to add a nice media gallery in Blogger but for now, this will do. I wasn't able to watermark these images taken on my phone because the 'edit' feature wasn't working on my instant uploads for some reason but I do want to post them. They're good pictures and since they are phone pix, I don't care terribly about watermarks!

This manicure is still on my nails today - I put it on 2 days ago and it's going strong with only the most minimal of tipwear!! The polishes used in this manicure were:

- Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter-A-Peel Basecoat
- Essie DJ Play That Song - 2 coats [Warm red-leaning purple jelly]
- Cult Nails, Seduction - 1 coat [LE Flakie polish in a blue leaning purple base]
- Revlon Quickdry Topcoat
-
Essie, DJ Play That Song -
  • This shade is the 'title shade' from Essie's DJ Play That Song Summer 2013 Neons collection. It is a JELLY FINISH. Now from what I was led to believe, a jelly-finish nail varnish is meant to give you that squishy, semi-sheer (Translucent) high gloss finish that cameras just love.I don't understand why people criticize this formula for being too sheer. DUH, THAT'S KIND OF THE POINT.
  • 2 coats on its own were good enough for me because I was going to add glitter on top. 3 coats would be ideal if I was wearing it alone. Perhaps 2 coats over white?
  • The formula is on the thinner side so take care not to overload your brush and flood your cuticles. Apply carefully and patiently. 2-3 thin coats should do it depending on how much you want to build it up. 3 coats felt best for the ideal translucency and color.
Note: It will never be as opaque as a creme finish on its own. Don't be stupid and expect a jelly formula to perform like an opaque creme and you'll be fine :)

Cult Nails, Seduction

  • Seduction is a sheer purple (blurple) base packed with tons of multicolored flakies in varying sizesThey flash different colors prettily in the light but are predominantly in a purple or orange state. There are some great flashes of green or a more pink shade in there too.
  • In the sunlight, my nails photographed as IF they were matte, but no matte finish was used. It shows off the flakies beautifully and clearly though, so enjoy the detailed view!
  • There was no issue with this formula. Just the right density and viscosity - 1 coat brushed on, not even dabbed, was enough for the above effect.
  • You could wear it alone (2-4 coats depending on intensity of base color you desire and thickness of coat) but it is another JELLY FINISH formula, so quit your complainin' if you can't get it opaque on its own. It looks great layered over blues, purples, dark vampy colors, and black :)
Enjoiiii :) Cult Nails is available at shop.cultnails.com and each polish retails for $12.

Cult Nails Manicure Party

I've got a pretty impressive stash of nail polish by a small indie brand Cult Nails. The family business is run by the wonderful Maria, and her husband and children often pitch in to help. She has certainly taken the Indie world by storm and does not hand-mix her own polish like most Indie brands. The fact that polishes are mixed in a lab though, just makes them all the better in terms of formulation.

Cult Nails retails for $12 a bottle (A slight price hike from the previous $10 price tag), but I am too stingy and usually stock up when there are sales!

I have more now, this picture is slightly outdated haha
I own a nice plethora of nail polish but also have a Cult Nails glass file (Which is the ONLY thing I use to file my nails now) and some rhinestones & studs I received in a goodie bag with one of the purchases (It was like a grab bag deal/sale she held a while back)

A good friend of mine came over for a sleepover and being deprived Indian children, we decided to do some mehndi designs on my arms. She wanted to practice and said she was getting rusty. Of course, in return for her hand art expertise, I offered her a manicure and whipped out all my Cult Nails collection. Secretly in the back of my mind, I did this so I could type up a Cult Nails themed manicure post in the future LOL.

We tested out various combinations and in the end, she went with a simple (but gorgeous) manicure using Cult Nails, Manipulative.

Cult Nails Charlatan over Nevermore (1-coat Black Creme)

Left: Bad Devious Nature + Charlatan   Middle: Flushed     Right: Flushed + Charlatan?
I loved this on her but she felt like it was too dark.
Cult Nails Flushed on its own (Left) and over a purple or a black (Right)
This is just 1 coat each of Scandalous (Left) and Manipulative (Right)
Color builds up so don't mind the sheerness!
And we have a winner! Pleas eignore my crappy yellow bare nails xD
Her manicure + the henna art on my hands!!

Victorian Disco Cosmetics - Zombie Flesh Nail Polish Swatches And Review

Oh gosh my blog post titles get massively large. Maybe I'll shorten the brand posts down by acronym. Like using VDC instead of the full Victorian Disco Cosmetics. Oh well, doesn't matter too much until I have a larger following of active followers!

THE GOOD NEWS: I HAVE ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE 6 INSTALLED! I took the opportunity to upgrade from 5.5 to 6 after the computer crash. They've really changed the GUI between the 5.5 and 6 update so it'll take me a couple days to get up to speed haha. I'm sure there are tons of new features to explore too!

VDC's Zombie Flesh was a limited edition release. A minimal quantity of trial-size nail polishes were sold for $4 each with the promise of a full-sized bottle upon review. I was going to review the polish anyway but a full-sized bottle of this beauty will be great! It performed wonderfully and I am excited to have more. The color is beautiful.

NOTD: Windestine Secret Garden ft. A England Galahad

Hi there! The title of the post just gives it all away, doesn't it? I wore this LOVELY combination for....a day and a half before the urge to pick at the heart glitter overtook me and I peeled the whole manicure off. I used a peel-off basecoat, so this isn't as terrible as it sounds.

These pre-cleanup pictures are though  :( But since all I've got is the content from ma phone, try your best not to cringe! Just focus on the pretty color combination instead, alright? :) I'll post them small here though haha. Just to minimize how bad the pre cleanup shots are.

Worn here are:
  • Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter-A-Peel Basecoat, 1 coat
  • A England Galahad, 2 coats
  • Windestine Secret Garden, 2 coats (1 brushed on, 2nd coat dabbed)
A England Galahad is a gorgeous dusty blue polish that covered perfectly in 1 coat. I just added the 2nd coat because of my poor application skills and not getting it nice and into the edges. Formula glides like butterrrr and it is seriously an easy polish to put on. The reason this is done messily is because I wasn't wearing contact lenses (Because Kerataconus, but I ranted about that earlier already) and my vision is impaired enough that getting edges perfect is difficult lately.

Windestine Secret Garden is a gorgeous purple & pale, almost lime, green glitter polish with iridescent heart glitter dispersed throughout. There's also a smattering of smaller glitter bits. It does offer good coverage but some fishing and dabbing is required if you want the bigger glitter bits!

I have seen a lot of people layer this over pinks and purples so I thought that Galahad was a great alternative! I loved the combination :D

Nerd Lacquer - Quantum Bluniverse

This is a quickie post! What happened is that I put this manicure on over Nail Pattern Boldnes's Glitter A Peel, which I have been testing the last week or so, and did not have any success with the mani's longevity. Moreover, I managed to ruin the state of my nails enough to cut them down really short. SO UNHAPPY!

But I cut them, buffed them, and braved the Glitter A Peel once more for NerdLacquer, Quantum Bluniverse.

NerdLacquer - Quantum Bluniverse is a gorgeous polish. I cannot get tired of praising NL polishes, honestly. Sadly, I've only got one polish left to review for you guys as I was only able to purchase 5 polishes from her shop. I had originally hoped for 10! BOOHOO

This is a cobalt blue base loaded with color-shifting shimmer. On top of that, it's got beautiful square blue glitter and varying sizes of golden/bronzed glitter as well. It is opaque in two coats - I did not need to layer anything underneath for my swatches. It is packed with glitter so some dabbing is required to move glitter around to where you want it and I found myself actually trying to take OFF some glitter because my nails would get overloaded with it.

The formula, unfortunately, is not as perfect as I hoped. It's a fairly opaque base color loaded with glitter, and falls sort of thick and harder to work with than other NerdLacquers that I own. Further, the larger gold hexes do sink to the bottom so some shaking or storing upside down prior to application would be helpful. It looks amazing once it's on though!! Just be warned that everything's not smooth sailing though I wished it had been.

If you like, you can buy Nerd Lacquer polishes for $10.00 each at Nerdlacquer.com. Good luck though, she sells out FAST. Like 1000 bottles in 2.5 minutes
fast.

Nerd Lacquer - Exterminate Swatches and Review

I've already swatched my faaavorite polish from my order, Cyance Friction. Exterminate was something I bought on a whim - my boyfriend saw me browsing through swatches and he really liked the color combo, so I went with it. I'm not disappointed at all!

NerdLacquer, Exterminate - This polish was unexpectedly pretty! I was unsure about how well the glitters would show over the brown base but the formula did not disappoint. Exterminate is a bronzed brown base packed (And I mean PACKED) primarily with blue and gold/bronze glitters. If you look closely at the swatch, there are also some black glitters sprinkled throughout, but I didn't notice them on my nail and only picked up on them when I was looking at swatch pictures.

For my swatches, I wore:

  • Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A Peel Basecoat - Detailed review coming soon
  • China Glaze, Call of the Wild (Dark brown creme) - 1 Coat
  • NerdLacquer, Exterminate - 2 Coats
  • Cult Nails Wicked Fast Topcoat

This is an 'indirect sunlight' picture. You can see that the glitters ost definitely did not get lost! I did use 2 coats of topcoat - one in the night and one in the morning - so the finish was fully smooth to the touch as well.

This picture was taken indoors, so artificial lighting. Aaaagh this looks so beautiful in its bottle shots too :) I did have to fish a little bit for the larger glitters because a lot of them sink to the bottom or are stuck to the sides. How annoying! But a little tiny bit of extra fishing and placing effort ensured that my OCD self had nice glitter distribution and some layering going on.

And now, a bonus sunlight shot to show you how gorgeous it looks when it's sparkling in the sun!!!! I mean c'mon, you can't deny. IT IS GORGEOUS.

My review/thoughts:
This polish is very thick from how densely packed with glitter it is. It did not make application too hard, but it did require a little bit of manipulation to make sure my nails weren't being flooded with glitters (Too much glitter in one layer = clumpy and bumpy finish). Other than that issue, the formula spread and layered like a dream. I could probably have done 2-3 coats and built it up to opacity but there was just so much glitter packed in the formula that I chose to use a basecoat and avoid layering the glitter so thickly. The first coat of Exterminate was dabbed on, and then a second coat was used to fill in around the edges and uneven glitter gaps. As I said, be prepared to manipulate the polish around a little. It's not that hard or time-consuming, but just something you should know!

Unfortunately, my basecoat here is the reason you see all the unfortunate chips and 'tipwear.' Let's just say that Glitter A Peel did not live up to my longevity expectations. These swatches were taken the morning after I put on my manicure. No shower in between (I showered in the evening before putting this manicure on) and I spent most of the time sleeping. Glitter A Peel is a great glue-type basecoat when you want an easy to remove glitter manicure, but don't expect it to last longer than the evening you need it for :(

If you like, you can buy NerdLacquer polishes for $10.00 each at Nerdlacquer.com. Follow Nerdlacquer on Google+ for updates on restock times!

Polish for a Cause!

Hi guys! Before I show you manicure pictures, I want to talk to you about something. About a CAUSE.

Nails by Laura worked in conjunction with a friend of ours to create a custom glitter nail polish blend. She released 100 bottles of that final color, called Dani-Mite, and announced that 1/2 the proceeds from this nail polish would go to a charity of Danielle's choice.

Currently, she still has EIGHT BOTTLES of Dani-Mite left! Please help me help her sell the remaining polishes!! It's a beautiful polish but it's for an even more beautiful cause.

I'm going to copy/paste below Laura's description and explanation of Dani-Mite :)

"I was recently approached by a member of a group I'm in to help her create a polish that we could sell to benefit the charity of her choice, The National Brain Tumor Society. Danielle herself has had a double diagnosis of a brain tumor, and as it is, this is a Cause close to me for personal (and probably obvious) reasons. So when Danielle approached our group with this request, I had to jump on it.
"Dani-mite" is named for Danielle, who brought this all to be in the first place. It's made up of satin turquoise, satin lime, and regular shiny orange hexes in a fine, holographic glitter base. As you can see from the swatch, it CAN be opaque with about 3-4 coats, but I do personally encourage it as a top coat, if only for easier application.
THERE WILL ONLY BE 100 MADE EVER. They will be labeled as such (1/100, 2/100, 3/100,etc). I WILL NOT make any more after that. You will not see this become part of my regular line. When the 100 sell, they're gone. So grab 'em for a good cause! "

Let me tell you, satin glitter is the shit. There was this beautiful pale lime green glitter in this mix and that just made my day. My nails looked SO gorgeous that I wore this manicure for a straight seven days. I haven't done that since last year!!!

This is ONE coat over OPI DS Sapphire. My ring finger has an
additional gold glitter polish on it, so please ignore that! It's a random
glitter I was going to wear before I decided to wear Dani-Mite instead.

It really GLOWED in the sunlight! I took this in the morning and my
camera was freaking out by the glitters. See how nearly translucent
the green glitters look? They looked AMAZING against the bright blue glitter.

This picture really showcases how holographic
OPI DS Sapphire is underneath! It was an amazing combination.
One that I'm pushing on my non-obsessed friends for sure!

The sparkle. I can't even.

Thank you so much Laura, for creating this polish and contributing to a cause that means a lot to Danielle and yourself, as well as everybody else who has been impacted by this illness. I know I took a while before I posted this, but it is an amazing nail polish and I'm so thankful that you allowed 100 other people to contribute in such a unique way!!

Expect swatches of Laura's Horoscope Collection soon! I purchased the entire set as minis but haven't gotten any time to post some lovely pictures!! I've already swatched a few shades randomly as I wore them but I'll definitely go through and swatch them in the proper order asap.

The nail polish's application was flawless. The glitter has a great consistency!! It's not that sparse...as you can see, I found one non-fussy coat more than enough to complete my manicure. The glitter is not thick, goopy, etc. It lays flat. It glows and sparkles. There's no fishing. No dabbing required. Overall, this nail polish is worth your money even without the charity affiliation!!!! I had no problems with applications or removal and after one coat of my Revlon Quickdry Top Coat, the manicure was good to go! And boyyy did it last. Seven days. I'm still astonished.
